Epiphanies on the Pot

I had a kind of epiphany this morning.  As I was reading a historical fiction about Christ, the Gerald Lund Kingdom of the Crown series, I think I finally understood a portion of what Christ meant when he gave a reason for teaching in parables. He told the parables for his believers, but said the unbelievers would not understand it. (Those are not exact words, but convey a similar meaning). “He that hath ears to hearlet him hear.” (Matt. 11:15.).

Earlier this summer I challenged my son Brennan, 14, to read the first 150 pages of the first book of this trilogy.  I have completely loved reading these books and often feel the power of Christ through these books. By page 150, Christ has been introduced and there could be no way one would not want to continue to read.  As you can guess, he did not appreciate the story and did not continue reading.  How could someone not feel something when reading through these stories of Christ?  I have come to realize that he might not be in the same spiritual place as others.  It may be more important for me as a father to help him learn of Christ more so than expecting him to get that from a historical fiction.

Although, the real reason may be that he doesn't appreciate his father giving him book suggestions.  This has been the case for a number of years, even before his teenage brain has begun to "fully function".
